Enjoy your scotch, Mitchell, but you might leave a little to pour over the clutch when you finally repair the seal. The risk you run in waiting a few weeks is of saturating the clutch with oil and having to replace it. Depends upon how much oil is leaking.

Good job. Seals are fickle things, and despite the proper installation, may come to bite you.

I took it out for a 15 mile drive this evening. There is plenty of power on tap (as compared to an 81 308GTSi I just drove yesterday). All the mechanical noises are there. Oil pressure pegged in the middle of the scale, coolant temperature 80 degrees C, oil temperature is also within range. And the beast never changed its idle speed. The demon is exorcised for good. What a pain one bad needle valve can do for you.

The tranny got a fresh dose of synthetic valvoline oil and even second gear is smooth. Clutch is perfectly adjusted so there is freeplay and the clutch effort is no worse than my 84 Carrera (When I used to have it).

It even smells cleaner than before. When I got home, I notice only one glitch: an oil leak out the bottom of the clutch housing. You know what that means: rear main seal did not seal. Oh well, I am going to break the engine in first, drive it for a few months and put a few miles on the engine before I spend a weekend yanking out that rear seal. I even have a theory of why that seal did not work well.

I am so happy I am rewarding myself a fresh taste of a 12 year old scotch. Who wouldhavethunk, me, a Ferrari mechanic !

Today after changing out all the needlevalves, adjusting the floats to close 1mm earlier, and cranking down the fuel pressure to 2 psi, the carbs no longer overflow. After synching up all the carbs and filling with appropriate coolant amount and bleed, the engine runs, idles smooth like a dream and never changes its tune after a drive.

Now, it is time to break it in.

Thanks to all those offer help. I could not have done it without you, anyone of you.
