Mitchell, Sevearl F mechanics told me this. pry the vent cap off, run a hose from the vent up the frame near the shock mount points and down near the back of the car. I put a fuel filter down near the end to let air ou but no dirt in. |

Mitchell, The plug that you refer to is a vent, and typically on most F-cars in the 1970 and 80s... The "loose" fitting cap merely is a dust cover to keep debris out of the transfer case, in this particular application. As it's function is to vent (to the atmosphere) any pressures that might build up in the transaxle, you wouldn't want to replace it with a plug that seals up the hole. It is not uncommon to see a bit of oil (seepage) from these vents.... Regards, David |

This is on a 75 GT4, bell housing. This looks to me like a half-baked vent plug that, on my car, is leaking a little oil. Is there any harm in removing this plug, and using a more permanent plug?
