My car was bult in Oct. '82 & desn't have the fan & rear defroster symbols, so it must have been very late in '82 Maybe it was only the US spec cars that got them (for the US idiots) & the Euros stayed more 'macho' for a while. |

The yellow light in the upper right is the rear defroster "on" light on my 84 308 The left orange light is the heater fan "on" light. Alfa's have them too. After 1981 Alfa even makes their light brighter if the fan is on the higher of the two settings. As best as I can tell, Ferrari started putting little symbols on these lights in late 82; a little fan on the orange one and a defroster symbol on the yellow one. |

YUP, ORANGE LIGHT IS FAN SWITCH ON - confirmed by emperical testing(ie: went off when i flipped the fan switch off). Ah, well now I can stop worrying about it and go back to figuring out how to fix my wiper switch... Thanx, all. I'll post what my YELLOW light does when I get around to tracing the wiring, probably this winter. |

Verell, When I bought my 308 I took it straight to the mechanic to get the service done. When I picked it up and drove it home I got into my driveway and noticed the orange light on. Oh no I thought, not a warning light already. I made a bee line for the phone and called my mechanic. He asked me to check the fan switch. Much to my embarrassment my daughter had been playing with the switches and it was on. The manual calls it the "fan warning light" what is it warning of? Just wanted to let you know you weren't the only one. |

Verell, No reason to feel embarrassed. The Ferrari owner's manuals loses a bit in the translation. Anyway, it's interesting to see what that yellow light is used for in other cars. The fan light takes a 1.2W tubular bulb. And I, too, suspect that your yellow light is hooked up to the rear fog light switch. Barry |

Barry, SO ORANGE -> VENTILATION FAN SWITCH IS ON Sure enough, the vent fan switch #54 on the instruments dwg is labled 'Defroster Switch(FAN)'. (DUH)Don't know how I overlooked it when scanning the Instruments figure & description. I'll verify it tonite. I thought I sort of rembered it coming on part thru my drive home last nite. However,I had a bazillion things on my mind & couldn't be sure it hadn't been on all the time. Especially since I flipped just about every switch EXCEPT the fan switch & the (broken) wiper switch w/o finding anything. Now I'm embarassed that I troubled you guys... It's annoyingly bright. I may install one of the nice & dim bulbs I pulled out of my speedo in it, or put a resistore in series to dim it down. YELLOW LIGHT IS STILL A MYSTERY Now, I'm really curious about my yellow light. It would be nice to have it as a warming up indicator that goes out when the engine is warm enuf to 'put the pedal to the metal' (heheheh). Since my car is an Euro, It wouldn't surprise me at all to discover it's wired up to the non-functional Switch #3: Rear Fog Light Switch(optional) which I've been meaning to wire to a relay to control my QV's running lights someday.

On my 83qv the upper left orange is the fan light and the upper right yellow is the warm up light. |

Thanks, Roderick. In my 1976 GTB, the yellow light is a true "spare light." It would be interesting to see how it's wired in other cars in this series. |

As a follow-up to Barry's comment, in my '81 (US)308, the yellow light is used to indicate that the engine is warming up and that high RPMs should be avoided. It goes out when operating temp is reached. |

Verell, As for the yellow light on the upper right, it is indeed a spare warning light which can be used for various things like a driving light "on" indicator if you wire it that way. I've heard that some 308s have this light wired in such a way as to indicate the choke being "on." Barry |

Verell, The orange warning light in the upper left side of the cluster is the fan "on" indicator. Check to see if it goes off when you move the fan toggle switch on your console to the off position. The manual refers to it as the "Defroster (fan) switch." Barry |

ORANGE WARNING LIGHT IS ALWAY ON! While I had the steering wheel & cluster switch pulled, I installed brighter bulbs in my '82 308 QV. Whilest doing so, I discovered the orange warning light in the upper left of the instrument panel had one lead unplugged. After re-connecting it, it's always on when the ignition is on! I suspect this is another surprise from the same mechanic who left me so many others(sigh). While I'm on the subject, what does the yellow light in the upper right of the panel indicate? (I've never seen it come on.) According to both the '82 Euro 308 QV and '82 Euro 308 GTSi/GTBi owners manuals: Orange warning light is called a "defroster warning Light". I don't have an electric defroster in either the front or rear windows. I can't find it listed on the wiring diagram. Is it indicating something else? It does NOT seem to be related to the radiator fan which is what the archives indicate it does on US cars. Yellow warning light is called a "Spare Indicator". Again, not listed in wiring diagram. What does it indicate, if anything? |
