For the record... I dont think a "low miles" car like a 308QV with 15K or 20K miles is going to be a real problem car. Perhaps not even with 5K if it was run often and allowed to warm up fully when it was driven. However a car with less than 1000 miles I would bet on it being a problem unless a fair bit of money is spent.

Bruno, when your GTB "came-out" after 10 years...how did the family take it? were they accepting?

David Jones is telling the truth. I sat in his car the other day, and it felt just like 56000 miles.

The worst example I can recall was a 308 in Florida... It was a 76 if I remember right, part of a collection a doctor owned.
He passed away and his wife sold the whole collection to the Toy store.
The car had just under 500 miles on it and they were making a big deal about how low the miles were....
When talking to one of their techs who just happened to be there, he told me outside, Don't even think about this car, it was parked in the doctors Ferrari shrine and never started, and that the motor required a complete rebuild with all new seals.... What a shame
My 308 has a low low 56k miles on it now...

When my gtb came out after 10 years it needed all new hoses and 2 calipers were seized and 30k etc.etc.etc. I got no problem with a very low mileage garage queen.I have a pf coupe sitting for 20 years now. but you needs one to drive. Thats where the fun is.

My 348 had a ten and a half year sit, currently on just over 3K miles - verified by all docs. Its had a couple of belt changes already due to time expired view, how rediculous is that!

I'd hardly describe my low miler as 'impossible'. As Ive said before its a shame about the inverse snobbery/envy shown to low mile cars. Being a perfectionist , 'for me' the pros outweigh the cons by a country mile, no rock chips, no leather wear, everything tight for me to enjoy running in over the next few years. Pedal rubbers new, no marks at all on the interior, engine bay like a detailed one without having to actually do much detailing at all etc etc

I could never afford a new F car so what I have is the next best thing, and looking at it that way the price I paid seems v low.

As posted a few days ago , first problem noticed is RH drive shaft seal leak, it goes into my nearest F dealer (MHT at Cheltenham UK) tomorrow! I think I also need to change the 'as new' tyres

I know a guy who has a 288GTO in storage with less than 200 miles. He purchased it as an investment and has only driven it once. Its in permanent storage. He swears up and down that it has been stored "properly" and will be ready to go anytime with minimal work. I think he is nuts. I believe this car will need not only a full 30K service but also all rubber hoses, brake lines, brake seals, wheel bearings, engine oil seals ect will be suspect. It will also likely have ring seating issues. The turbos will also be junk soon.

The saddest part is that this great performance car will probably always be an ultra low mileage garage or museam queen. What a terrible thing to do to such an awesome car.

I wonder who has the Lowest Milege 308. And what the service costs are? What problems are associated with low milege cars, in reality.

Paul should have the higher speedo.
My conclusion from this thread so far is that 100k should be no problem for these cars if maintained.

About 48,000 miles on my '84 QV... concours winner and runs strong, including two or three times each year at track events. Other than rebuilding the long euro front spoiler after some accidental "off-roading", it's pretty much original, just well maintained. Did a refinish/redye of the leather to get off all the old lacquer-based dye.

I bought the car 9 years ago at 21,000 miles from the first owner, and it did have records back to day-one, with most of the maintenance being done at the Ferrari dealer where he had purchased it.

Paul, they changed them in 1980 for DOT. Your 79 should have the higher one. Is it a Eurro car?

The ferrari service records show mine as having 90,000 kms at one point in the early 90's and later its had 6000kms. Now it shows 48,000kms. Im assuming it has rolled over. Should my 79 have a speedo that reads to 280km/h? Or has it been changed from one of the ones with the red line past a certian speed?

Was that car in the Seattle area with 100k a Red/Tan? I did a minor service (just fluids and brakes) on one that had just turned over by 200 miles. Seats were starting to wear quite a bit but it still sounded strong when it fired off.

Does anybody actually believe the odometer on a 308? Without full day 1 documentation you must be nuts. And what about all the 1980 cars on with 180 mph speedometers. What was the mileage when it was changed. Got documents? Got old speedo? Car isnt original!!!

My 328 has 66k miles, if previous owner had not driven with broken water pump it would not have needed rebuild. These engines should last 200k, then comprehensive rebuild should keep them going. Regular service is the key to high milage. I had a gt4 with 5ok no problems.

I actually sold a new and crated 308 QV engine to a fantastic gent in California. It replaced his original 308 QV engine when it passed away at 130,000 miles, may it rest in peace (or pieces).

Tony Palladino from Modena Motors in Redwood City, CA did the engine replacement.

Normal maint. Valves checked never needed adjustment yet. Plan to recheck at 45k. Cam seals look good with no leaks. 1 dist. seal needs to be replaced but otherwise pretty dry on top. Still have oil debris on bottom due to bad cam cover gasket at 35k but that was corrested. Looking for 100k+ miles. My wife's Volvo just turned 211k on the orig. motor. Happy motoring

Grandad's old ax sounds like some of the restored Corvettes out there. Replacement engine block, repro frame rails, new fiberglass front cap and rear fenders, but it's still the same car??? Must be, because it has the same title and license plate! At least the Ferrari guys don't seem to be as insanely fanatical about original bolt head insignias, original weatherstripping logos, and other such nonsense. The CAR itself is what's important, not the correct PATINA on the camshaft bearings!

Yea, it doesn't really count if it's been opened up a couple of times for mods, etc. Kinda like your granddad's old ax. The head has been changed twice and the handle three times but it's still the same ax.
