Dave has a point about tach acuracy. One way to test tach accuracy is if the speed you are getting at 6300 is normal for 7500. I kind of gather it is not because you mentioned that the party doesn't start until 5,000 and I am assumming that you are not getting the "torque and speed" party you are expecting. Check like dave says anyway.

Another thing to check for is the tach accurate? My 328 tach reads about 10% low and hits the rev limiter at an indicated 7K +/-. Tachs from this era seem to have a lot of problems.

This exact thing happened to my TR and it turned out the fusebox was going bad and screwing up the iginition. My car would stop at 5000 rpms instead of going to 6800. Interesting as the Mondial and TR I think have similar fusebox set-up. I recommend you check your fusebox connections first, make sure you do not have any arcing connections. Pull all connections and check for burnt tips, connections or charring of the fusebox.

A little gas on cold start-up where the cold start system is not activated yet is normal. I do this periodically in my TR for the last 3 plus years with no problems. Needs the extra gas for about 1 minute then all is well.

My Mondial 3.2 Cab has decided that she doesn't want to rev past 6,300. This is not good, as the party only starts at 5,000 and is meant to finish at 7,500.
Up to the cut out all seems well and the engine idles fairly smoothly. That being said, I have noticed that occasionally when turning the engine over from cold, there is a sudden reluctance to turn and then it turns fine and fires up.
I have also found that the engine likes 1/3 of a throttle while cranking. Is this normal for a cold engine ?
The engine had new belts etc 3K miles ago and was running perfectly up until this week. It presently has 36K up. Any help with what is causing the cut out or where to begin would be a great help.
