Dave,

The inspection light receptacle is under the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It's standard on the 308 series.

If I remember right, I think I read somewhere that as an option, a plug receptacle was installed under the dash so you could plug in a trouble light... I wonder if this is the hole?

I've been using this hole to gain access to the plastic "lock" ring that holds the outer trim ring around the ignition key-switch. For some reason this outer ring keeps popping out away from the dash -- doesn't want to stay locked in place. Maybe I should try super-glue .

My 79 has it also. Probably used to move the switch as you take it out and away from the steering column lock.

Same here on my 79. maybe access for the ignition cylinder. Later domestics have an access hole to press a release pin for cylinder removal when you have the key as well.

I just looked... my 1985 308/QV has the same thing, an open hole, It appears to be designed as an access hole. There's no plug.

I just noticed that there is about a 1/2" to 3/4" hole in my dash under the slight shelf directly beneath the the ignition switch. It looks like it was meant to be there as the vinyl around it is cut and trimmed inside of it and it seems as though something was mounted there--perhaps just a plug to allow one to get at the key-switch wiring?. Does anyone know what went there?
