the guy I rent my garage from stuffs an old towell into the right hand intake duct to reduce the smell...at some point someone removed the vacuum flap that closes the airbox door...the old towell works well.

I've noticed that scent in my garage after shut down as well. My 308 GTB is carburetted too.

I, too, like that smell.

I love the garage smell! To me it makes the car almost "alive". Like Don I also love the leather smell on your clothes after a long drive. All part of the unique mix of driving a Ferrari

Yeah, stinky car here too. I've also got a small oil leak that gets a little oil on the headers, so I get burnt oil as well as gas.

The carbs will vent up thru tha air cleaner, but there is also a vent from the evap emission control system. If this system is overloaded, as it often can be, it will vent excess fumes to the atmosphere.

Carb smell will be noticed from the air intake. Evap control stink can be isolated as from the back right corner when you have the engine cover open.

I have a very noticeable gasoline odor even though the car does not leak. The carburetors is pretty much an open-to-the-atmosphere system and the gasoline will dissipate into the surrounding air through the air intake port and other smaller openings that the carbs have access to.

This comes with the territory for the older carb cars. I close the door very tightly now between the house and the garage so that the smell does not get through. When I am down in the garage, i open the front and the back door to generate a draft to clean out the smell.

I don't find it hugely pleasant, but there is nothing to do about it.

My '78 has the same sort of smell. I kind of like it. I also like the way my clothes smell like the leather after a nice long drive...

Matthew - My '78 also has this unique odor. I know exactly what you refer to. Although, I would not go so far as to say I am "bombarded" by this smell. My car has no leaks of any type, oil, fuel or exhaust. I find this to be a pleasent background odor that I assume is unique to this type of car, as I have not come across it before.

Yes Matthew I have a 79 308 GTS. You can expect this from a older carbed Ferrari such as ours. However be sure the gas smell is not a leak which could cause a fire later on.

Does anyone else's 308 generate a smell of gas/oil/exhaust/hot metal? Every time I go into my garage I am bombarded with "Ode de Ferrari" I am assumimg that this is natural due to no oil, fuel, or exhaust leaks. The sent desipates over time as the car gets cooler.
