I like the recessed headlights instead of the pop-ups. I was thinking of just changing the headlights to recessed. Anyone want to offer an opinion about the looks of recessed vs pop-up? Thanks.

Curious? Anybody do or see a 355 to 348 conversion, if the strakes fit, wear 'em!

The Ferrari of Washington Car appears to be a Michelotto Conversion. With the lights build in and other body parts changed. I would not qualify this car as a simple conversion of the 348. It is basically a complete new car made and authorized through Ferrari SpA.

Concerning taking out the side strakes, I read in a 348 book that these strakes were designed for additional airflow into the intake. This is also why the Testarossa has them. They should shuffle air into the intake. Further the intake is covered with the strakes reducing injury risk.

I would not do it. Besides it alters the appearance of the car too much. Its wanting a 355 but not be able to pay for it. There are certain stylish things I accept. Painting lower part of the car, painting the TS top in body color, chrome prancing horses, shields, but when it comes to major changes I disagree.

No offense. Just my opinion. If you ever do it, post pictures and make pix while you are doing it!

Check out the following 348 that Ferrari of Washington uses for it's endurance races. It actually has many of the items you want to use for your 348....plus gobs and gobs of horse power. The owner of the car and dealership is Allie Ash. He also races in the Challenge with a 360. Maybe you can give him a call and see if he can give some suggestions for your conversion.

I have seen pics on the net of a few of these 348->355 conversions, not all look bad. Meaning in can be done tastefully (IMHO). There was even a show car for sale of this type on ebay once. I wish I had snagged the pics (from the web) then, I've been looking around for them ever since.

Good luck and show us all the tranformation, WE LOVE the images!

I am getting ready to attempt the re-body in a couple of months. I have already purchased the F355 front & rear bumpers, left & right lower valances, lower door skins, rear grill, and am currently looking for a used deck lid. Everything appears that it should bolt into place with little or no modification with the exeption of where the rear quarter panels meet the F355's slightly winged deck lid. I'll keep you updated----->Chris

I vaguely remember someone saying that they matched up, as do most of the panels on the two cars. But I could be wrong. It was somewhere recently too that I read it.

Has any one ever "removed" the strakes on a 348? The body style is very close to the 355 and I have seen several 348's with the 355 style rear grill (Panel) used in place of the stock unit.Could these strakes be cut out and the resultant area filled, sanded, etc?

For those cringing right now... if we look back in Ferrari history it was fairly common to embody cars for many reasons including aesthetics.

Any input would be interesting.
