Any chance you can make me one? If so let me know the price, Im tired of my ferrari sounding like a 1969 VW beetle. Give me an e-mail, maybe we can work a trade out. I also am the one who is making the Millermon Conversion. Its the aftermarket total ignition replacement system. [email protected] Ben |

Found a nice set of dual non resonated tips for my muffler. I will let you know how they sound. They are similar to the factory pieces, but curve upwards slightly and have 2.50 pipes...will post pic completed if they work. |

Thanks for the dimensions Robert. As a comparison, my Borla's canister is almost the same (4 X 9½ X 16"). |

I used a Flowmaster 80 series crossflow muffler #42582, its dimensions are 4"thick, 9.75 wide, 18' case and 24"overall (which I cut down for the reducers). The mandrel bent pipes are made by Dynomax and can be purchased from Jegs, the part # is 289-42321. The size is 2.25 with a 4" radius, I purcased 3 of these and cut them with a chop saw. They were used for the inlet on the rear header and for the bend on the forward header, also for the exit pipes. The system sits very tight between the rear rails and the mandrel bends are the only way to get a super tight fit without loosing exhaust flow. I cut off the 4- 2.50 inlet and outlets and used 4 reducers size 2.50 reduced to 2 1/8 and welded them in the place of the other inlet and outlets (they can be purchased at Pep Boys). A slip reducer was used at the forward header pipe to tie into the factory pipe and a clamp was used to secure it. A factory header flange was obtained from an old exhaust and welded on the rear pipe. As far as the replacement donut gaskets they can be matched at NAPA without using the Ferrari pieces. It does have a much deeper and I would say a quite bit louder at idle sound than before, but I do not have any tips to change the sound. A set of resonator tips will be tried to tone down the sound some. As far as when driving it sounds great and has that big block rumble. No mosquito sound here. The picture really does this no justice, the welds have all been ground smooth. The case is a deep wrinkle finish and the pipes have been sanded slick and coated with satin paint. I guess I went a little overboard for something that can'nt be seen, but what the hell I know its there and I am sure others can hear it. |

Bravo Robert! Nice job. The size of the canister looks similar to my Borla. Would you mind posting dimensions, please? How loud is it? |

Nice project! I've occasionally wondered how a flowmaster would do on a 308. Any chance you have dyno data on your current exhaust for a before/after comparison? BTW, did you do the mandrel bending yourself? If so, what sort of equipment did it require. |

Finally finished modification on a Flowmaster muffler to fit my 82 308gtbi euro. I built it as a bolt on item. I used a Flowmaster crossflow muffler with 2.5 inlet and outlets, reduced them to accept 2.25 pipe. All mandrel bent pipes were used as needed, this helps for a smooth non restrictive exhaust + tighter bends can be made without kinking the pipe. I also used the factory header flange and a slip collar for the forward header pipe. I have not installed any tailtips at this time. Wanted to try out some different ones to get the tone I am looking to hear. I may not go back to the factory style dual tips, but may go after a different look. The mounting and fitment were great and is well hidden under the rear compartment pan. I mounted it aprox. 2" off the bottom and can not be seen from the rear, unless you look between the cross bar below the bumper. Euro models have no exhaust cover and I did not want a muffler hanging down (now polished stainless maybe). I painted it in the black krinkle finish and looks much like the Ansa muffler I had for it. The sound is much deeper at idle and has a very pronounced sound on acceleration. Like I said before I am going to try some different tips with and without resonators. It actually feels like it accelerates better or perhaps the sound makes it feel that way. I have aprox $250. minus tailtips and about 7 hours with the fitment, cutting, and welding. All in all I am pretty happy with it, I will let you know what tips I find that sound the best. The picture is before I installed it. There is nothing to see when looking from the rear. When I get it on a rack I will post a bottom shot. |
