One more thing, double nut did not always work. I ended up borrowing a 3-cam stud puller from a mechanic friend (I have very good friends) and it was a breeze. Did not even damage the threads much, a little die/tap action will deal with that. |

Doc, Paul is correct on the mounting bolts where they go into the block. I used Permatex no. 2 on the threads of those bolts about 2 yrs ago. It cured my leak. Also clean the threads inside the block and on the bolt with brake kleen first and dry them out with compressed air or a rag before applying the sealer. |

The studs thread into the side of the gearbox case. 4 per mount. If you remove the mounts and then the studs, coat them with a thread sealer. Im sure you will get lots of input on sealant here but any will do the trick. I would pass on the teflon tape though. I guess just hope the threads are not damaged by some other yoyo thats been there before you. |

I recall a relatively recent thread dealing with using silicone sealer coating on the threads of motor mount bolts to stop oil leaks , but i can't seem to find it. I have oil leaking in these areas and am wondering about which threads to coat in order to stop the leaking. I see 2 studs going into the side of the engine and one which mounts vertically (through the frame, I presume).I assume it Is the 2 studs which require sealing. Do you think that teflon tape would work as well? Anything to watch out for in removing these studs/ bolts? |
