Since my car never had a radio installed, the original factory 'plate' was still in place. It is of course the size of the opening, metal, and covered in vinyl to match the rest of that instrument pod. It has a threaded stud on the back with a metal plate that fits over it (slightly larger than the trim plate) which is secured by a nut/washer - tightening it hold the unit in place. Might still be available from Ferrari - worth a try. |

What I like about my Kenwood 516S is that the front panel flips to flat black -- looks like nothing is installed. |

I just removed a Kenwood CD receiver and changer from my 86 328 GTB for exactly the same reason. I want to hear the engine. Ill probably put something else back in, Alpine or Blaupunkt. In the meantime, is there a trim panel available to fill the space where the radio was? |

click "Keyword Search" at left sidebar and simply enter "antenna" or whatever subject you want to search. It's a great help! Good luck! PS - I agree with last post - I have expensice am/fm cd unit and never listen to it! Nothing is better than the roar of the motor. Plus I like to know that I will hear any abnormal sounds, should they occur. |

Craig - thanks greatly for the prompt response - how does one access the 'search' feature you mentioned re the antenna? |

I just put a Kenwood 516S in my '86 328. Most quality head units are adaptable to fit in most cars with plates and trim rings. I used the slide-in type installation. The unit I used was 6-3/4" deep which was no problem. The factory install uses 5-1/4" door speakers and dash mounted tweeters. I replaced the door units with Infinity 552i's. They are 2-1/2" deep and just fit so you probably can't go any deeper than that(but most are less). I wouldn't worry about the dash speakers if you don't have them (but you can get aftermarket versions if you want). I would be surprised if the wiring wasn't there already. Speaker wires are green/red, Violet/black and Grey(you'll see two in parallel about 4" apart). They use the round snap in connectors which can be changed. Access to the head unit is the easiest I've ever dealt with -- Two screws under the A/C ducts at the bottom. Remove the face vents first and pull down for access. Door speakers a bit harder but can be done without complete door panel removal. Remove the small screws all around. Unscrew the two screws to the small panel on top of door that blends with dash. Pop off panel to expose large screw that fastens handle to door--Unscrew this. Remove door latch opening plate(two screws), exposing the other two screws holding the door handle -- Remove. Now, with some effort, you can install the speakers without having to remove the whole panel and refitting. I'm not sure the routing of the antenna cable but I think if you search on "antenna", you'll find someone who psted here recently for a 308. Good luck!! P.S. I still like to listen to the engine sounds more than the radio but it's nice to have a working radio at times... |

My 328 has never had a radio installed. I was hoping that someone could tell me the routing of the factory electric antenna cable (which still has the original tie-wrap arond the lead) to the radio head. Also, I assume that the factory has wiring sitting there ready to use for speakers, etc. which I understand are factory installed (dash and door panels). Lastly, any tips on the installation (assume it takes a DIN type radio application). Thanks to all |
