Cool. Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll take it in for an oil change soon and have them check the squeel but hold off on the belts for at least another year. |

After 12 years, the belts and bearings on my TR were in near new condition. A 550 with 4 years, with updated and much improved technology, I would guess they are still new. Even 30K seems ridiculous to me (IMHO), but then, why not if you can afford it. By the way, I thought you did not need to remove the engine to perform the major service on the 550. Hence, it should be considerably cheaper than on a TR. |

David, Woops the last time I brought this up I was the so called owner of a Garage Queen. Since then I have done a complete service and I swear to God I have put at least 40 Miles on this car. I intend to put on at least another 40 before the next service. It has been 14 years since a service. Bad boy!!! |

Bill, how long had it been since your tensioners were last changed? The newest 308 is now 17 years old, this 550 is only four years old! Bruce, it was Duracell :-) Things are fine, and I am getting my 328 (new to me) back from a major on Wed night! Yea!

Sounds like an accessory belt. Wait for 30k BUT..have them check for cracking and dryness |

I had a screetching sound on start up on my 308 with 22,000 miles on it. After a complete service, the only thing really needing replacement was the tensioner bearings. They were absolutely SHOT. Very close to seize up and a belt or two turning into smoke! Definately check the accessory belts, and then think about the bearings!!!! |

The squeel is likely an accessory drive belt. It may need adjustment, or a little shot of "belt dressing". I would change the timing belts at the factory recommended time...But hey, I'm a 328 owner so what the F do I know... |

I just passed 20K miles on my 1998 550. Do you think it's time to have the belts replaced? The manual says 30K miles. I hear a squeel when I first fire up the engine on a cold start. |
