Sorry for the delay in summarizing, business travel delayed further work on this. I polished the windows using Autoglym (http://store.yahoo.com/classic-motoring/autglaspol.html). This completely eliminated the stutter of the wipers on the glass. The wipers move smoothly now in the dry. I haven't had a chance to try them in the rain yet. The windows are also remarkably clean as a result. I recommend this product. It only took about 30 minutes to do the inside and out of all windows. I also used it on the wiper blades as recommended on the bottle. The only complaint is that it is slightly chalky when wiping off after drying -- this can be minimized by using a thin coats rather globbing it on with reckless abandon as was my initial approach. I also dribbled some 90 weight on the wiper linkage after removing the front cowl -- I couldn't really see any difference and am not even sure that this is a good thing to do.

Try common paint thinner (mineral spirits) to remove the RainX. I once called the RainX consumer hellp line & that's that they recommended.

My 308's wipers are slow also, but seem to have improved with recent use.

I use RainX also, but not recently as my reservoir let it drip into my spare tire's rim.

Unfortunately it did this during the winter, so it was well set up when I discovered it. That's when I called RainX. Mineral Sprits didn't touch the purple, neither do the common solvents. I'm not quite ready to grab Strypeze or MEK yet, but suspect that's what it's going to take to get it off. Unfortunately, it'll probably take the silver paint with it. Anyway, it's out of sight & out of mind for now.

Thanks for the feedback. I will take a look at the fuses and contacts this weekend and also see what can be done to clean/lubricate the drive linkage. I am also going to try to use glass polish to remove the Rain-X and smooth the surface of the glass. I couldn't find any glass polish locally, so I ordered Autoglym (http://store.yahoo.com/classic-motoring/autglaspol.html), but it won't arrive until next week. I will report back if any of these help.

Tom, I live in Montclair, NJ and would be interested in hearing about your get togethers. I just joined FCA and see that an event is scheduled next week in Morristown.

My '82 Euro GTS QV's wipers are moderately slow.

After seeing the speedup cleaning/lubeing my passenger window provided, I've been suspecting that giving the wiper drive the same treatment might make a difference.

Has anyone tried this???

I've been using RainX wiper fluid & suspect it isn't helping.

Peter,

Check the fuses for the wipers and see if they are the right ones. I had a similar problem on my 308 and I found out that the fuse was and 8 amp rathern then a 16 amp. Also, clean the contacts of the fuse.

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard the comment regarding Ferrari wipers and windows that "if they move, they're working" so I'm not expecting much -- but I've only driven in the rain once and they stopped altogether at one point and started moving slowly again only when I turned to high -- so I'm not sure if this is part of the "normal" slowness. The wipers stutter a bit even when they are moving (relatively) quickly -- I think this may be due to Rain-X, so I may try to strip that off and see if the situation improves. I know lots of people love Rain-X but I've always found it that it increases the wiper "stiction". Of course, if I can't get the wipers to cooperate, I might have no choice but to slather large quantities of Rain-X back on. I'm happy to report that my car had the belts, water pump, seals, alternater, ... replaced just prior to my purchase.

Ferrari's are famous for slow windows and wipers. Buying a new motor is a waste of money. Save it for your timing belts or water pump.

I just purchased a 1986 Mondial -- the car is electrically perfect with the exception of very slow wipers. Will a new wiper motor fix this or are there other items that should be looked at first? Additionally, the wipers don't automatically park -- the previous owner purchased a relay that is supposed to fix this but it didn't work. I'm not too concerned about the automatic park but need to fix the wiper speed because I don't think it will pass NJ inspection since they test the wipers with a dry windshield. Thanks for your help.
