Speaking from personal experiance..I've even had cars as late as 1997 needing exhaust maifold replacement. All manufactures(Ferrari included)must warrenty major emissions components for 8 years(this I have read and heard lots of times before)So if anything should happen to the manifolds under "normal" operation the parts should be replaced at no charge or under "goodwill" because Ferrari knows this is a problem. |

My F355 came with a 1 year powertrain warentee from FNA. I got it at 22,000 miles, just after a 30K (engine out) service. The headers sounded fine until I started taking it to the track (28K miles). After the first event, the tone of the engine was not right, after 5 more events, I took it back to FOH (about 5 days before the 1 year warentee was to expire) and gave them a "my history with the car" diatribe. They replaced the headers (didn't even hassle me--thanks FOH). Would the headers have lasted if I didn't track the car? Don't know. But there is a large body of evedance that the headers on the 95s were not up to snuff. My particular car was produced after the valve guides were switched (around mid-year). |

Mitch, I am in the process of buying a 95 355B with 5500 miles. It is having the major service done. Should I be worried about the headers as a waer-n-tear problem with a certain amount of miles or is it from hard driving? How did you get them to do it under warranty? Clark |

Whoa Frank, slow down!! The guy wants to buy an F1, Ive had many thousand trouble free miles with mine. My 99 is a great car and we all know anything that goes wrong on an F car is expensive no matter what. I do agree that I would go back to manual just out of personal preference. If you want to take a flight to the US , my Tour De France Blue F1 spider is for sale. Might be a bit more expensive here though! |

Look to be sure it has a manual shifter in the console. If not, stay far away from it unless you love spending money at your local dealer. F1 shifters are for race cars and people with more dollars than sense IMHO. I have driven them at Road Atlanta and on the street. For the track they are great. On the street, I wouldn't own one if you gave it to me. I would sell it and buy a manual version though. In case someone out there does want to give me one ? |

As a 95-F355 owner who just (resently) had his headers replaced (under warentee--thanks FOH--on a 7 year old car!) and had his left CAT replaced (had to eat this one myself), both headers were only charged $4,500 to the work order (although 8 * $18 gaskets seems over-the-top), and the cat was only $1100. F1 trannys did not come along until after the valve guide materials upgrade (bronze to steel), and header update changes were already performed in the factory. Although the clutch is a known wear area on 355's, F1's tend to use more clutch than M6's (although not always--driving style can make or brake clutch life). |

Be very careful...these cars seem to eat exhaust manifolds and catalitic converters..This has been traced to crappy valve guides,Ferrari now has updated to a better material. Exhaust manifolds are $3500 each! and converters are I think $1500 each. The F1 cars like to eat clutches aswell. I put 2 clutches in a customers car with in 30k. |

I am thinking about "upgrading" from 328 GTS to 355 GTS F1. Any advice on what to look (out) for is apreciated. Thanks Kurt |
