Gene -- the "clamp" doesn't appear in the SPC because it's not a separate piece -- just a strip of sheetmetal (bent into a circle) that is welded directly to the chassis frame. Unfortunately, with the ususal flexing/abuse it takes over time it's not uncommon for them to break off -- you can probably find the "weld spot" on you frame if you look closely.

PS I was able to find a good fitting (and good looking) replacement tube at a VW parts shop for those who may need one.

Thanks for the reply. I assume there should be a clamp there too. I would guess it fell off when the tube fell off and was lost. It is puzzeling that it does'nt show in the parts manual. Is that perhaps common that smaller parts like clamps are assumed and not shown?

GENE, I think that tube is there to help cool the cats. There should be a existing clamp that is securing that hose. It is lightweight and should't cause a problem. Be sure it doesn't rub against the axle boot and wear a hole in the boot. MAGOO

Just noticed that the aluminum accordian shaped diffenential cooling tube had come off my 1979 308 GTS (part no. 60439700 on plate 102 of the parts manual). It was resting on the frame next to the axle but had some bending and metal marks like it had contacted some moving parts. I am surprised there is no clamp holding this tube onto the "Y" of the air induction tube and wonder if there is the potential for more serious complications if it becomes entangled in the axle or other parts. Also wonder how critical it is to cooling. Something you may want to check. I intend to add a clamp although a clamp falling off and into something would probably be more serious than this lightweight hose which would probably disintegrate.
