Thank you for all of the info. How do I get in touch with Pete, I would like to ask some questions about what he had done and if he was happy with the work. |

I think thats the way it is 2 distributors are the same.I know Ferrari claims the US car (carbed) can be tuned to 255hp with the emission equip. intact. It might not pass but it will do it. |

The early US cams are better than the later carbed ones. The euro cams in some cases may be the same grind but you have a large hole in the end of the head to contend with on the US cars. The regrinds cost $625US last I heard for the 4. Alot better than buying used euro ones. Pete in Toronto just got a set from elgin for his GT4 and he told me $625US. Far better off by picking your own grind. |

Don't have it in front of me, but as I remember, the book "Original V8" shows cam specs. Seems the 2-distributor cars are the same, US .vs. Euro, but the 1-distributor cars are different. If you don't have the reference handy, drop me a line and I'll look it up. Can't vouch for its accuracy, tho. |

I dont know about the gt4 but I think the cams in the euro and US 308 are the same. They just use different timing marks. |

I have spoken with Dema Elgin on this very subject, and he said because of the design used in the 308 there is not much meat on the cam so to speak, and that in order to regrind one, it must first be welded to build up the lobe area and then re-tempered, and more times than not the cams have to be re-straightened... He said it was a very laborious and in the end, a very expensive process. |

Skip -- (No direct experience myself, but) for the option of repairing your cams (and/or regrinding to higher performance) you and/or your mechanic might want to contact Elgin Cams to see if they might be an option for you (if you're in N.A.): www.elgincams.com just a thought...

Why new cams? Most cams can be reground - how bad are they. |

If your car is not a euro, the rear head and valve cover wont allow the cams to work. Unless your GT4 is a pre-smog car with to pump drive off the rear exhaust cam. |

The shop that is doing the major service on my 308 gt/4 says it may need new cams. If they do need to be replaced I would like to go with the Euro version. Where is the best place to find them? |
