Brian: Sortof did that. Got one 'QV' style fan, fixed both of the Lucas fans. Using one of each right now. Not sure why, just 'cause. Hans. |

If anyone has a Honda you can replace the heater blower motor brushes with alternator brushes for only a couple of bucks. A new motor is $200.00 |

Other than the cost, why don't you upgrade to the QV cooling fan motors and blades? Same diameter so they fit into the stock clamp, and they draw less amps and the redsigned blades move more air. Just a thought..... Brian |

Drew: Oops. Wasn't NAPA, although our local store does have some brushes. Got them at Knecht's. I don't know if they are a regional or national parts chain. The part was "Filko J10". They are rectangular in cross section, not square, but pretty close. I had to file about 1mm or less off of the side to make them work. Also, the ends are flat, not curved, and they are a touch too long. I filed an indentation in the end to cure both problems. Came with springs, but I reused the old ones. Had wires attached in a similar manner as the originals, and appear to be made of the same greasy carbon/copper/whatever material. |

Well I found a source: C&S Auto Electric in Atlanta, GA 770/941-0003 Ask for Terry Smith (nice guy) They know them as Pantera, Lucas cooling fan motors. Take a look at the web page. It is by a guy who bought my Pantera about 5 years ago. It is the same fan motor used on the Pantera. They also stock brushes for other Lucas motors www.panteraplace.com/page115.htm |

Hans, yes if you could give me the make and part number I'd like to know. I went to NAPA after reading your post. They do not stock brushes. Maybe with the make and part number I can do a little better. Paul, I called the number you posted. The tech was very friendly but couldn't help since they do not list by size. He did however say that if I had a part number he may be able to cross reference it. When I got home I looked in an old FAF catalogue I had and it had the Lucas brush replacement kit part number. I believe it is a Lucas part number and not a FAF number. I am going ot call them back tomorrow and see if they can cross reference the Lucas brushes to something they have in stock. Getting closer, Drew |

Thanks Paul, got it. Robert I think this will eventually be the route I have to take. There are not that many of these places left since now small appliances are just disposed of. Drew |

Please post what you find. I rebuilt one of my motors using an auto parts store brush set that didn't quite fit. A file made them acceptable, but not perfect. (If anyone wants to know, I'll find the box. Got them at a NAPA store.) |

Find a electric motor shop that rabuilds small AC/DC motors. You may find brushes that are the right size or ones slightly over size, use fine sand-paper or a file untel they fit. On most small brushes there is a spring over the wire held in place with disc, this will need to be cut off and a new connector crimped on. So make shore the wire is long enough. |

Paul that would be great. My fax number is 205/752-6480. The brushes measure 1/4X1/4 X I'm guessing 1/2" long with a "tip mounted" connection. I would appreciate you sending any information that would be close to that. Drew |

One of the radiator fans stopped working on my Boxer this weekend. I took it apart and the brushes are totally worn down. I haven't had much luck finding anything close around town. Does anyone know of a good source for Lucas fan motor brushes? Thought I would try here before I blindly started searching the internet. Thanks, Drew |
