Adam, I recently purchased a (used) kit for my 308 from Peter Sweeney. The lower attachment points are as stock (for the lap part of the belt system). The upper used a heavy bar that fixed to the stock seat belt mounting points and the belts themselves then wrapped around this bar. Seems to work quite well. |

The closer to shoulder level the attachment points, the better. One critical thing about cross-bars... make *damn* sure that in the event the seat back breaks (at the connection to the seat bottom), that there's no way the seat can go back and hit the bar. I know of at least two cases where drivers were KILLED because of this. The bar hits the headret, the headrest (and your neck) bend forward and: ttthhhhatt's all folks. Also, DO NOT attempt to use the seat mounting bolt points to anchor the upper shoulder belts. This is about as effective as not even having them on. |

I want to put racing belts on my TR (86 so it does not have the mouse trap seat belts) and do not want to put holes on the rear deck for the upper shoulder belts. My thought was to remove the "d" rings on the b-posts and use those mounting holes to run a bar across the the two mounting points. I would put a 4" or so set back on the bar to give more room for the seats to move. I was thinking of putting mounting brackets with holes in for the "d" ring mounts and then weld these to the end of side of the bar. Any thoughts or have someone done this. I would think that the "d" ring mounts are strong enough since that is the current mount for the belts. |
