Knowing you are going to get rid of the car in 1-2 years I would hollow it out.Sound will be a little deeper. It will be undectable except by emission test to anyone looking. You put a test pipe in you will need to adjust the carbs a little to compensate for the increased flow But your car is injected so it will compensate on it's own.Spend the couple of bucks and have a welder do it.Been there did it. |

I had a hollowed out one which I only realized upon taking apart the whole shabang. I got a test pipe prior to this so that will go in when it all goes back together. All you need to hollow it out is a good steel rod or even a long chisle and a hammer will work. The rod is best though for dramatic effect. |

Scott, I paid a welder $35.00 to hollow them out. Look in the yellow pages for any weld shop and take them there. Don't forget to put new gaskets on when your remount them. |

Hollow them out and save some money and keep the original look. The sound is only slightly louder. |

If it were mine I would remove them, you will enjoy the engine sound much more. |

My 82 308 went in for a check up on the cylinders and my mechanic found that the catalytic converters were deteriorating. He gave me some options... one, to replace them with new at $1300 each, two rebuild them at $300 each, three hollow out the existing converters and re install, and lastly to remove them altogether. Obviously removing them will help with performance but how will the car sound? Emissions are not an issue where I live. As a new Ferrari owner with little to no tech knowlege I hope some of you can help point me in the right direction. Thank you. |
