Thanks guys for the help...But do any of you know anybody that has one of these, new or used for sale?..It's been over two weeks without driving the car and my dealer still hasn't found one!..I think I'm going to remove it and take to a shop that does diff work and have them look at it and see what they can do...maybe they'll be able to fix it.

Ditto on Ed's comments...
Find another shop to take a look-see at this problem...Continued driving could seriously damage the transaxle case encompassing the diff unit.

Re: Ferrari stopped making transaxle parts...
Just finnished up a BB gearbox overhaul with bearings, synchros and 3rd gear. All parts were available, just took a little effort to locate them. (Possibly more than your dealer is willing to do...)

I think you need to let someone else look at your car. The problem should have been obvious when the bearings were replaced.

Well lets put it this way...when turning tight corners...parking,pulling into driveway, the axle flange at the diff moves so much side to side that it contacts the transmission case!!. You can see on the flange were the brass colour has been ground off...( pretty bad huh?) by the transmission case...My ferrari dealer is trying to locate me a new one, but they told me that Ferrari stopped making trans parts for 308,328,Mondial 3 years ago, and whats ever left in the wearhouses is all thats left!

Tom,
Please clarify how you're defining/measuring "play".

Excessive differential backlash can be adjusted by shimming the diff carrier bearings...to set the proper bearing pre-load.

Regards,
David

My 82 308gtsi has alot of play in the diff. I've replaced the diff bearings but this did not fix the problem. Does anybody know if this unit can be rebuilt? Ferrari only sells it as a complete unit and they are having a hard time locating one. Please help...!!!!
