Changed my wires yesterday--what a difference! Now, can anyone assist me re: changing the distributer seal? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Mitch--the fragile gaskets you referred to are for the distributer itself or for the caps? I don't have any gaskets for the caps at all on my car.

I'm also going to replace my wires and extenders as well--I just got a complete set of Cavis wires from Evans in Ohio for $249 complete--boots, insulators, all installed ready to mount. His price for extenders is $9.

Hi Bill! Funny you posted this today, as I just did this procedure yesterday on my 84 308 QV. It is not a hard job. I suggest you use a little bit of gasket sealant to keep the gaskets in place, because I was goin nuts trying to keep them in place as I screwed the caps back on. I have no pics, but there are 3 8mm screws on each cap. The dis gasket as VERY fragile. While you have the distributors out, check the rotors, wires, extenders and plugs. I replaced all of them yesterday, and the car runs better than ever. Disconnect the battery first, be very careful of the caps themselves, as I had a cracked one, and they are approx $175-$200 a piece! Good luck, email me if you have any quesitons or problems.

I'm thinking of attempting to replace a leaky distributer seal and, not being a mechanic and never having seen the internal set-up, I'd like some guidance on how to perform this service. A detailed-as-possible, step-by-step tutorage would be most helpful.Pics would be great also, if available, and any advice on potential problems encountered in this job would be appreciated as well . Thank you.
