Randy, be happy you did not buy the SLK. My wife just got rid of hers. What a piece of trash. That car is a disgrace for the Mercedes name. I can not imagine who let that thing run off the production line. We got rid of it while it still had some warranty left.

Just bought a CLK for her. She loves that car. I drove the car and there is a quality difference. That is a true Mercedes.

Concerning your modification, please post a picture. I can not really imagine what you did.

Do you have a TB or TS?
Would be great if you post a picture in your profile....

Anyway. If it is a TS, I have the same thing. The water comes from the front run off where the TS top sits in and runs to the side. There the top does not sit completely flush and presses against the front rubber. There is really nothing you can do.

While driving fast in rain the water will be forced backwards and that lip will not accumulate rain for run-off. Once you stop if should build up and sip in as well.

Besides replacing the foam on both sides, there is a soft foam product that form-fits like putty. When I purchased my 81 308 GTSi, there was an 1/8" gap between the windows and the targa top (I guess they shrink after time). With a little bit of glue/epoxy and this material, the window stayed snug and leak-proof.

I'll let you know how it goes on my next wash. BTW, I used to hear it from my wife everytime it leaked, "You should've bought the SLK!" - not on your life! :)
