I am embarrassed to say I simply changed the spark plug wire set and away we went. This was after cleaning all of the sensors, contacts, etc as everyone below suggested. But ultimately it was when I changed the wire set on the front bank. Thanks for all of the input as it keeps me on the learning curve where I need to be! |

There is also a tendancy for the connections at the left hand side of the engine bay to become faulty. These are two white connectors, just in front of the top of the left-hand shock absorber. Disconnect them, clean them, and reconnect. I've fixed at least two cars that were running on 4 cylinders simply by doing this. |

They are easily accessible with only two nuts holding them on. Be careful not to loose the nuts and washers as you remove them. |

How do you get to the sensors? Do you have to remove the bellhousing or on they on top near the opening of the flywheel where you can check the timing of the car. |

Check the resistance, all 3 of them should have around 0.700 ohm. |

I have some of the sensors if you need them, or if it turns out to be the digiplex I have one of them also. |

try checking the connections at the sensors. I had one do this to me and all it was,was a bad connection. There are 3 sensors..2 crank and one r.p.m sensor. The crank sensors wiring is white with white connectors. They will be found on the oil filter side of the engine on top of the bellhousing towards the front bank of the engine. |

I don't know how to fix it, but it was certainly an "easy" fix for my mechanic to change out one of those sensors and get my other 4 cylinders back on my QV when I had that problem a couple of years ago. |

My 81 308GTBi is doing the 4 cylinder thing. That is to say only the front bank is combusting. The rear four cylinders have fuel, compression and spark but will not combust. The fuel pump is new. My question is how many crankshaft position sensors are there in the shared camshaft? Is the trigger in the flywheel a pin or something else? Do they ever fall out or how do I pull the sensors to check them. Thanks for any input! Should I just convert to a direct fire ignition and not try to chase it anymore? I have tried different distributors with same results, only front bank combusting. Again, thanks for any help. |
