The nuts for my Porsche exhaust manifold are over $4 each at the dealer. I used copper nuts instead. It's an item I check. Two years ago one nut loosened on my Porsche. This changed the loading on another and broke off the stud in the head. It took me two weeks to get the broken stud out of the head (head not removed from engine). I eventually cut it out with a diamond burr. |

Wow Did not know that the factory capped nuts are nylon-insert types as well. I guess I will just tighten them every month along with my monthly list of things to check anyway. I am not paying a buck a piece for 30-40 nuts. I am not the q-tip concours type. |

Peter -- The difference could be a design change that was made between '75 and '78 -- i.e., the plain nuts had more likelihood of coming loose (although, like the oil filter standpipe issue, it isn't the biggest worry in the world ;)). The '78 B/S parts book shows those exhaust manifold nuts as PN 105938 (which does seem a little different than the usual 8-digit PNs that most of the common hardware gets) -- anyone got the '75 GT4 SPC to compare PNs?. |

ric, is the dome on the acorn portion the same as factory? do you know if they offer the higher dome nut required for a couple of the longer studs? |

The exhaust manifold nuts looked to me like copper (solid copper) and were just plain nuts with lock washers, not the fancy kind you posted (Steve)... As for the valve cover nuts, I did use regular acorn nuts, but used lock-washers with them (knowing that the originals were a Nylock-type and with plain, flat washers). |

Mitchell: The Ferrari valve cover nuts are not standard acorn nuts. They are nylon-insert, also available from Fabory in stainless, but the finish is not as good as the OEM nuts. http://www.metricfasteners.com/detail.asp?id=51405 |

Paul Any metric fasteners place will sell you "Acorn nuts" or "capped nuts" in polished or stainless steel version for 10 cents each. I bought mine at Mr. Metric in San Jose. Mitchell |

You guys are great. I cannot believe you guys posted exactly what I needed to know and even offered a kind of group buy. Thanks. One of the sources I did end up finding was Superformance at about $1 a nut. I like Ric's price a lot better. Although I did see that Superformance has (although backordered at the moment) motor mounts for $100 a piece (about $50 cheaper than anyone else). Just incase anyone is looking for mounts. Thanks again. |

Does anybody want any of these? I'm about to order so more stuff from Fabory, so get on board if you do. Oh yea, they're $0.2667 USD each plus (my cost) about $4-5 shipping UPS. Email me privately. |

Steve is right. The Fabory part number is 72130.080.130, which is 8 x 1.25mm with 13mm across the slots. I've used these with good results. |

Chris -- I can't recall if they are an all brass/bronze alloy or if they're just copper-plated steel (a magnet will tell you), but the special thing is that they are an all-metal prevailing torque nut like this: http://www.metricfasteners.com/detail.asp?id=72130 where the nut has a partial slot cut in it, and after threading the slot is squished closed on the open side so that when the nut is threaded onto the stud the slot is forced back open and the two parts of the nut work against each other to provide some drag. My recollection is M8 x 1.25P but I'm only 50% sure about that. |

Hi everyone, I am trying to find out what size/pitch and material the 308 exhaust manifold nuts are made of. I will soon be in the process of removing the manifolds fixing some leaks and probably get them jet coated. During the reinstall I think it would be smart to use new nuts. I believe I remember seeing something about them being made out of brass. If they are, can I just pick up some metric brass nuts (no jokes please) from mcmaster.com or do you think it would be wise to get the "correct" parts from Ferrari. Thanks for the help. |
