Just take the old one to salvage yard. They will match you right up.Thats were mine came from.I did have to shim the pulley out with a couple of washers.I'll check it for #'s. |

When I bought my '77 GT4 I expected to have to replace the missing (opps!) smog pumps to pass emissions testing. I asked the parts man at a local Chevy dealer which cars used the pump with the GM part number listed in my owner's manual. He said that most GM cars of the period used the same basic pump but they had several different #'s for various applications mostly due to different outlet styles. Just plop your old pump (if you have it) down on the counter at a good auto parts dealer and say "give me one just like it". You should be able to get something that will work even if you have to bolt on your old outlet. BTW, as expected my car didn't pass sans smog gear but I got a waiver by showing $300 in receipts for tune-up parts that I would have purchased anyway. |

Stan -- I just ran the english-threads version of the AirCardone brand air pump on my ex-'78 308 without difficulty (your '82 2-valve may still use the same style although I don't know if they changed over to the metric-thread version). The AirCardone info and some NAPA/GM data from Mike Fisher is in this post: http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/4599.html Don't know any details about bearing differences, if any, but at <$75 each you could replace it quite frequently (I replaced my first AirCardone one after about 30K miles).

I would be surprised about bearing differences. The cam drives it and the cams are running at half engine speed. I guess the pulley ratios would come into play but I dont know what they are and how much of an affect they have on pump rpm. No idea on the part number either, not much help eh? |

Does anyone know what the GMC part number for a smog or air pump is for a 82 308 GTSi? Mark Gordon says a 81 Buick Regal smog pump will work, but apparently there are two versions. Also, I've heard that the Ferrari part has different bearings to make up for the higher engine revs. Any truth to that? |
