Chris -- I used a "domestic" 2 terminal flasher without any problems:

(It's an IDEAL 577v from the Ideal Division of the Stant Corporation)

I liked the extra loudness. It does require moving 1 of the female wire terminals in the panel to an unused position since on the stock flasher the terminals are parallel whereas on the domestic they are at a 90 deg angle.

Although I'm doubtful the flasher is your problem since it works OK without headlights -- sounds more like using the headlights somehow draws (unwanted) extra current thru the flasher causing it to heat up more quickly than normal so your thought about a ground problem somewhere might be right.

PS Add your F description (year/model/version) to your Profile!

Hi everyone, I have a question about the 308 turn signals. My turn signals work great without the head lights on or even with the parking lights on. As soon as I light the head lamps the turn signals become hyper active and blink very fast. I remember having a car a while back that if one of the lamps was burnt out it would flash the turn signal very fast. Well all my lamps are good and this also happens for both left and right. I am thinking it could be a low voltage problem (head lights drooping the voltage) or maybe a grounding problem, but before I start digging into all that I would first like to replace the blinker relay which looks like it may be original. Does anyone out there know if the relay can be cross referenced to a more easily obtainable part or if it is a trip to the dealer for me. Thanks for everyone's help.
