Don what Stu says makes sense, The rubber probably has gotten somewhat stiff over the years and won't allow the top to seat. Try lubing the rubber seals, using Westley's revitalizing protectant found in all auto stores Pep Boys etc. The top then should make a memory in the rubber seals and eventually it should work ok. |

Don -- try: http://www.ferraribooks.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=206 for the Owner's Manual. I've bought several items from Kurt W. and have been very pleased with the prices/quality. PS If your '78 308GTS is a US version the print number for the '78 US 308GTB/30GTS Owners Manual is 150/78 (but I doubt you'll beat the $95 price from Kurt). |

I replaced the stripping above the windshield as well as the other main weatherstripping - which actually goes all the way around the entire cabin of the car, including the back of where the top fits. Ever since I replaced these the top is VERY tight and difficult to snap into place. The plus side is that once it's on, it's much more quiet - no squeaking or rattling as before. Also, no rain drips! I had to gently force the top into place as best I could for a while, eventually the front seal condensed a bit which made it easier to put on. Good luck! |

Hi Don, I have a 79 308GTS. The two pointed "bullet shaped" extensions should fit into the holes of the windshield crossmember and the top will drop into place. When you snap the rear locks in place they should have some resistance to make a good seal. Has any one replaced the front seal across the windshield pillar crossmember? Another thing is that those 2bullet shaped extensions are adjustable. There is a rubber sheath over the extensions. Remove them and you will see a lock nut on the shaft. Could they be too far out? Just some thoughts that might help. |

Hi everybody - I just purchased a 1978 308GTS. All of the information that I was able to learn from this site was very helpful in my purchase decision, so I thank everybody for this valuable resource. I'm trying to learn about the car as best I can, but the car did not come with an owner's manual. Does someone have a 1978 308 who would be willing to xerox their owner's manual for me? My question is on top fitting. The previous owner did not ever use the top as far as I know. When I attempt to install the top, the large weatherstripping on the top of the windshield seems to prevent insertion of the two posts into the windshield header for accurate sealing and fastening. Is there a technique to making the top fit? I'd be grateful for any suggestions. I don't want to force anything. Thank you very much. |
