Well I finally got my idle stabilized. It was a matter of several things. I cleaned the valve under the air filter, it was dirty around the edges. Also I cleaned the throttle plate which had quite a bit of carbon on it. Then I reset the idle by what I read in an earlier thread and everything seems fine. Thanks for all the helpful comments, LUCH |

Well so far no luck. I've checked my auxillary air valve and it's working fine and so is the coolant sensor. The last thing will be to check for vacuum leaks. If not any more suggestions? Thanx,LUCH |

My fuel accumulator was shot and because of this it was allowing fuel into the vacuum lines. It definitely had an effect on the idle of my car, although I don't know if it would make it jump like that. After I replaced it my car is so much smoother. |

By the way, where is the auxillary air valve 86'328GTS? |

Well the saga goes on. I can't find any vacuum leaks and I jumped the coolant level sensor in the overflow tank...thought it worked but that wasn't it. Any suggestions? Cables are free carpet is clear etc....???? |

Hi, I'm new to this post. I have the same thing on my 85 xjs. The idle will sometimes be fine, then at other times it will be high, from 500 to 1500 rpm higher. It too has an auxilary air valve like the 308, and that is the only thing that I haven't checked yet. If your is easy to check (mine is not) I would look there if no vacuum leak is discovered. |

I doubt it. I do not know if your car has an idle speed control motor but if it does I would suspect it or the throttle position sensor. |

Could this piossibly due to a bad O2 sensor? |

I checked everything but vacumn leaks. I also turned my idle down to 1100. It still jumps up @ 400rpms at random times for no apparent reason. When the car is idling and I'm not even in it, it will jump up. Sometimes I'll tap the gas pedal and it will drop, but sometimes not. Sometimes after a good ride it will be fine, sometimes not....????? Any suggestions. It's driving me nuts. This all started before I changed my timing belts so nothing there caused it. Help! |

Steve, Thanks . I checked the floor mats...I had that problem before. I'll check the cable. |

Thanks for the response. A mechanic in Cal. gave me a tip on Euro tune by removing the purple ground wire on your injection control in the left rear of the trunk. This resets it to euro specs...and higher idle. I guess I could drop it down but the problem is it jumping up higher. |

Karl -- have you already checked the various items (floor mats, cable, aux air valve) mentioned in this previous thread: http://www.yourlog.com/discus/messages/112/1029.html? about a high idle? It's got to be a case of extra air getting in (not extra fuel). PS why is your normal warm idle so high (1500 RPM)? -- should be more like 1000 RPM. |

I had something similar on my qv-- was sticky throttle cable-particular problem on cars that sit for a while |

I have an 86 328GTS w/23k mi. bypass pipe and euro tuned which idles @ 1500. Just recently my idle started jumping to @ 2000. Sometimes if I punch the gas pedal it drops down, sometimes not. Could this be a sign that it's time to change the injectors or a sticky butterfly. When I take it out for a good hard drive it sometime seems to get better. Any ideas? |
