Hans yes it was a greenish gray color, but I just painted them aluminum. I want originality but I'm not overly obsessed with exact colors. Depending on which series and US or Euro determines the firewall configuration. I've seen some with 3 sheets of aluminum (like mine) or one long piece of aluminum. Some only have a sponge material (like Gerrits. All depends on when and who put it together.

My .02:

'75 GT4. All of the stuff that follows is original factory stuff, as per the original owner.

Firewall: Plain sheet of shiny aluminum. I specifically questioned the original owner about this, as I have seen other.

Lucas fans: Housings are a sort of greenish/greyish/mottled stuff. Kind of a low relief crinkle-like finish. Fan blades are grey plastic.

You're probably right Jay. The exception that proves the rule is the rule with Ferrari it seems...

Peter, I know it is hard to tell from the picture but my original fans were aluminum. They also had the Lucas decal on them. I guess it depended on which one they had in stock at the factory that day.

Jay, the fan motors on my car were matt-black and it was the original finish (as it still had the original Lucas writting on it).

Hi Mitchell,
I have a Euro GT4 so I don't need to worry about scratching all that aluminum, because there was none added. My challenge is finding aluminum covered foam to replace the beat up stuff on the front wall of my engine compartment. I have a lead on some possible materials but it depends on how close the samples are to the original.

I didn't Gerrit. I wanted to but I forgot to include them in the box of bolts for plating. I used an aluminum paint on them. From what I could see after cleaning them, they were originally painted. At least mine were. And yes, you should pull the engine and scrub this winter. If I have to, you should too!

Damn Jay, that is SO NICE. Protect that firewall before dropping the engine back in. I tried my best to avoid it, but put some scratches in it on mine...

Thanks Mitchel, I've also sent every nut, bolt, washer, clamp and pin out to be re-plated. It's a nice feeling when you start seeing the results.

Wow Jay

really like that shiny new firewall. Wished I did mine too, but ... it was in acceptable condition so I left it alone. Shiny new fans ... great job. You are going to have one clean GT4.
