BretM, yes, that's what James Gardner from Norwoods thought it may be. However, the sound is coming from the back right part of the engine, not front left where the coolant goes. Although it could still be something from the cooling system back there on the right.

Are you sure it's hissing from the AC? It could be a leak in the expansion tank for the cooling system. Sometimes they develop small holes that leak the air when they are pressurized, usually around the brackets or where the hoses go on.

Rob -- It's not "supposed to do that", but these modern cars, where the top (vapor) side of the fuel system is closed, can squeal a bit occasionally. It's a free, easy test so I thought I'd suggest you try it before you started tearing into the AC.

Wow, that would be good news if it's supposed to do that to bleed pressure from the fuel system.

Rob -- are you sure it's really related to the AC? If not, try unscrewing your gas tank cap and see if the noise "goes away".

I have noticed a few times that there's a little hissing sound coming from the engine bay for awhile after it's used. I was at a car show and a guy who once had a 328 said it was a problem with the O-Ring and a freon leak. Last oil change they did have to top off the freon. It's only done this for a month or so and stops after a few hours.

He also recommended not using the AC because it can blow and put oil everywhere.

I need advice and estimates on what it takes to fix.

Thanks
