As my car was getting the major, I was also informed of a leaky water pump. The cost of rebuilding is almost as much as a new one. I think $900 rebuild vs $1200 brand new, and yes, the engine needs to be out. Good luck, |

water pump r/r is a engine out operation on the 348, should have been changed at the major service when the engine was out for belt change. Last I heard they were not "rebuildable" although there are many in this chat that believe every waterpump is "rebuildable" it takes trialand error to find and match -up what are usually generic bearings and seals. |

Your water pump should have been changed at the major service on my 328 when I did the t belts I also changed tensioners and the pump you only want to do this once the transverse cars are a pain to work on your 348 would be much simpleier |

Best case scenario: just a leaky hose/hose connection right at the pump. That can be fixed in situ, by poping off the hose and replacing the hose clamps (may require draining the system a couple of litres to keep coolant from spilling out the open tube). If not, could be the gasket, or, if its the same as my 308, the O-Ring between pump housing and engine block. Either of those would require pump removal. |

Well, after flushing my cooling system and installing a new cap as preventative maintenance, I was rewarded with a leaking water pump on my '90 348ts. Car has 40k miles, 30k service already performed. Does the engine have to be removed to replace the water pump? Is there a replacement seal or is it the whole pump? Any suggestions on a parts source? Other tips? Thanks Mark |
