About a year ago I purchase a 1993 348TB Speciale Red / Black with 9k miles, excellent condition, for $65k. It has yet to have a major service. I did have a compression & leak down tests perfomed; all cylinders came back right at 165 psi. As for the carbon fiber seats, it depends upon how wide your back side is. At 5' 8", 165 lbs. the seats are snug but comfortable for me.

Thaks for all the info! I will get the compression and leakdown performed and then determine if it is in spec before purchasing. Oh well if I am meant to drive the prancing horse it will happen!

If it is in excellent condition, considering no repair is needed, take it.

I have to warn you about the Speciale seats. It is not comfortable. The normal seats are 10x better. Take it from me, I switched seats after 6 months (a pair goes around $1500 on ebay). Also, pay special attention on the clutch, my car has 23k miles and the friction point is high that I might need a new clutch soon ($5k job?).

Good luck.

thanks for all the help guys! do you think that a 1992 Speciale 348 with approx 24k miles Red with Black sport seats would be worth approx 55 US with full servicee (belts/pump/seals) performed? or is that kinda high as the market is not too hot it seems right now!
Thanks!

I agree with Billy. Compression tests are good as far as they go. I prefer leakdown tests with the piston halfway down the bore. You will need to hold the motor from turning to do so. My experience is most cylinder scoring or damage isn't at the very top and can be missed. With leakdown testing a hissing sound from the exhaust pipe for example will tell you where it is leaking. Make sure valves are in spec. Leak down test is the only non-destructive way.

Might try a leak down test, at least for the one cylinder. Could help isolate where the problem is. General lore is that cylinders/rings are usually not the culprit, probably a valve.

Hi guys/gals,

I am relatively new to the Ferrari community, and would really appreciate some insight and expertise regarding this situation. I am looking at a 92 348 Speciale, and it checked out okay except for the compression numbers. All cylinders except for one, are between 150-165, and one is at 125 psi.
The car has 36000kms on it or 22000 miles, and the major service was just completed. Is this a major problem? what are the possible causes and costs?

Thank you
