I have a 2 onto 4 ANSA system without cats and yes Ansa systems do rust quickly. My 4 exit pipes and resonators were rusted out although the muffler itself is holding up. Recently changed the exit pipes and tips. The car is now much louder than any standard 78 GTB with cats. On a clear night I can even set the neighbour's car alarm off. And yes people behind me do enjoy that delightful aroma !

I too added Nick's SS test pipes to my 78 308 GTS, and found little performance increase. It still met my objective, which was to have a louder exhaust sound and save the cats and car from possible car-fire if I were to have an ignition failure. BTW, the muffler is the stock one.

Nick's test pipes are VERY nicely manufactured, with clean welds and quality materials.

I got the test pipes from Nick as well, very good quality, excellent fit. Installation was simple.

The car sounds much better, but I had tubis on my 90 TR. The sound is noticeably louder after the test pipes. Sounds very nice at lower RPMs and underload.

However, it does smell a lot worse, since there is no CAT, but only the car behind me gets to smell them :)

I recommend the pipes, you'll love the sound difference.

Finding an Ansa will be near impossible ( they don't seem to be so difficult to locate for the 83 and earlier cars) plus they rust. Buy the Tubi. It's a very good product. I have a Tubi and a Stebro "test pipe". When I put the test pipe on the sound became a lot more throaty. It give me a lot more throttle response. I have a friend that has a 4V 308 too. There is a huge difference in throttle response between our cars now. I have had a problem with a strong exhaust smell with the cat off and that has been discussed here earlier. It can be tough to deal with at long stoplights.

Hey Doug, yeah that is what I was thinking. Its a LOT cheaper than replacing a cat. I'll be using the original exhaust as well. Does the test pipe make the car smell bad? Heck, I think it will be worth it for the sound alone! I cannot wait!! How else can I make the car louder, without dumping $2500 on a Tubi? Any ideas? Ansa?

I got the first 4v test pipe from Nick. Actually he used my cat conv. as the template. For the sound, it gave the car more of a low to mid rpm growl. As to performance increase, it was minor. I actually did dynos before and after. The curves stayed identical and added 1.5 to both hp and ft.lbs. My exhaust is original so if it was more freeflowing, I'm sure that combined with the test pipe would make bigger gains. A good reason to do the exchange is that it is a very easy install and these QV cats are 15+ years old. By using the test pipe you can save your cat for when it's needed for emissions testing. A new Ferrari cat will set you back $1500+.

I'm planning on buying a test pipe for my 308 QV in a day or so from Nick Scianna. Does anyone have a test pipe on a 308? Does it make it sound any better...if that is possible!? How about HP gains, are there any gains, or is a test pipe for sound purposes only? Thanks everyone!
