Axxis (Lucas MetalMax) pads were a real problem after some track time and subsequently gave a lot of squeal on the street. A couple of years ago, even though I had plenty of pad left, I changed over to Porterfield Carbon Kevlar pads, in their R4-S version (high performance street with some track use). I've been VERY happy with them. www.porterfield-brakes.com

Some of the PF pads damage the wheels. I use them on my track car - compound 90 and 97. They squeal and corrode the cast wheels. They do not seem to bother the Fuchs wheels that are used on the track (forged) but have ruined the cast Austrailian road wheels. That said, they work very well on the track. Compound 97 does not need much warmup to work well. Compound 90 has to be hot to really grab. Axis/Repco pads work well for street driving. They don't squeal in my 328 or in my Porsche. But they do not withstand severe track use. They cost less than PF or Hawk. |

Tommy, I'll be going through the same process on my 84 here pretty soon. I've bought my brake fluid bleeder, and at the moment, plan on using Performance Friction pads...although I may still do some more research on the Repco/Axxis pads. I'll email you what I have... |

I am going to swap the pads out on my 84 308. My only experience is with water cooled VW's and my 82 Alfa Spider. Is there any thing unique I need to be aware of? I would appreciate any advice, step by step list, etc. that you guys can give. Thanks. |
