Thanks Barney, I found some bearings. Part # 1622-2RS. They are correct ID and OD but .031 thicker. When I assembled the rack it only required eliminating one .008 shim from the pinion cover. It appears that the original lower bearing is not fully seated in the bore. With the new one fully seated and the long legnth of the pinion shaft gear, there is no problem with the extra thickness. Gear alignment is fine and the rack works like new. The vibration is gone and the smile is back. Robert |

Sorry it took so long to respond. My 308 project has been on hold since a bad snychro in 2nd and 3rd gear is costing me a fortune. I will still try to get the numbers for you. |

I will try to get the number. I just recently did a rack as well. The bearings were straight from TRW. |

Back in July I posted some questions about the steering rack in a 308. Well I pulled it today. The infamous right side bushing was shot. Got a new one from Norwood and a seal from Honda, (thanks Stacy). The bearings were also pitted from condensation. Unfortunately the SKF bearing numbers are unreadable anlthough I have a partial on one bearing. Does any one have the bearing numbers? I have a complete interchange so any brand will do. Thanks, Robert |
