Bruno, in Michael Dregni's book: "Inside Ferrari", that 308 (the one Barry just posted) was languishing at the back of the shop in the scrapyard, with lots of damage to the nose. It didn't take very long to get that way either, the photo was dated 1979... |

That package no doubt evolved from the Pininfarina aerodynamic study for the 308 GTB earlier in 1977.

There was a factory-issue list of parts called "Elenco Particolari Speciali Per Transformazione Sportiva 308 GTB" dated 7-28-77. This listed many parts for race modifications, but I doubt that any such car would be able to meet US emissions regs. The list included 10.3:1 pistons, different camshafts, larger carburetor chokes and related parts, a special clutch, different transfer gears, shorter gearing, and body parts that include a large spoiler, and four wide fiberglass fenders. |

Hi All, I was talking to someone today with a 308. It was a 78 carb car and he was telling me that it had the factory installed 'le mans' package. Apparently this involved a higher performance engine from factory that had ,among other things , different cams. Has anyone heard of this or might the owner be mistaken? In 1978 what were some of the options available when purchasing a new 308? If anyone has some info for me I'd greatly appreciate hearing it. I want to learn as much as I can about these cars and it seems like a lot of it is more urban myth than fact. |
