David -- Do you have a schematic for your Mondial? Sometimes there's a "fuseable link" built into the large +12V line running to the starter (and then a somewhat smaller, but still fairly healthy line, comes back from the starter to run everything else). If the battery reads +12V and the connections are OK, yet you don't have +12V measured at the starter or fusebox, then it must be some type of break in the main +12V line.

Have you confirmed the battery cut-off switch (usually under the front bonnet somewhere if so equipped) is in the "on" position? It probably wouldn't hurt to turn it off and on a few times to "wipe" the contacts.

The click or pop you heard could have been a short, or less likely a relay, in the rear. It might have been the starter solenoid. Check your fuses up front to narrow your search pattern. Don't forget to check your battery to assure it is properly charged.

Follow Craigs advice - occasionally you hit a bump and while the battery connection is still in tack it needs to be tightened or moved slightly to reconnect. Happened to me before

First Step:

Make sure your battery connections are tight and solid. Loosen the nut slightly and bump the connector so it rotates slightly for a better connection and tighen the nut. Then try again with the headlights first to see if you have power.

I turned the key and heard a click or pop in the engine compartment and all the power was gone. No accessories, lights, clock, hazards, nothing.
Is there some main fuse in the engine bay somewhere? Car running fine otherwise in recent days. Any help appreciated.
