Steve,

I just tried blowing compressed air and sucking on it like a peace pipe. Everything, and nothing happens at the other end.

Thanks, Mitch

Yes and yes -- the check valve is only there to try to preserve the vacuum (if any) on the booster side when the engine side goes to a low vacuum condition. If the shuttle in the valve sticks on its seat and keeps it closed, no vacuum ever reaches the booster.

When I start my car there is no power assist from the brakes and the pedal will barely budge. I pulled the vaccum hose at the booster and there is no vaccum present and the engine continues to idle fine without loping so I'm suspecting a faulty/corroded check valve. Does this make sense? If so, can I substitute the valve with a hollow fitting to see if this stops the problem without damaging the brake system? Come on, give me a brake.
