Actually the problem with mine is the lever that you use to dim lights behind you is broken so that the mirror is loose and it vibrates while driving, making it tough to spot them nice peace officers coming up behind me. The mirror itself is fine. |

Pep Boys have 1/16th glass in generic dimensions for $5. I used my 2 broken pieces for a template and put the glass cutter to work. Looks like new. |

I took my friend for a ride last night and while getting in the car he knocked the inside rearview mirror off the base. It simply snapped back in with a slight rotating motion. |

FYI: Good luck finding a new piece of glass for the rear view mirror. The original is about 1/16" and all I could find was 1/8". I went to every glass place I could find. I finally settled on the 1/8" piece and I removed a spacer from the mirror. Jerry |

Matt, How long do you think it will be before your wife takes over part of the garage? It took mine a couple of years. Now I find myself squeezed into one half of one side of one of the 3 garages. I think it's time to move her out. (of the garage that is.............maybe i'll move her out completely) |

I just tried to twist off the rear view mirror and the entire unit broke loose from the windshield. Any recommendations on what type of glue/ cement should be used to reattach it? |

The mirrors are designed to break off if in a collision. |

Matt, You do have a way with words Let me understand your instructions for removal, grab the mounting stalk and rotate it around its axis and it will pop off the base, leaving the base attached to the windshield and the mirror attached to the stalk? |

John, If all you need to do is to replace either the glass, or the mirror surface, just "unsnap" the ring around the outside of the mirror. This will allow the glass and mirror surface to fall freely out of the housing. I do this to clean mine. If you have a crack, simply take it to a glass place and have them cut a fresh one- $10. Best of luck. |

Pivot the arm at the base. It should pop off at the seam I misunderstood what you were asking. |

Isn't ther a way to remove the actual mirror and arm from the glued attaching plate? Most mirrors come apart at the windshield at the glued mount with some sort of hex screw. There seems to be a seam in the middle of the mount |

Take it to a windshield repair place. It is worth the $10 bucks to have them remove it. A new windshield it $800 |

John, don't quote me on this but I believe all rear view mirrors are attatched with a type of adhesive. BE CAREFUL! If you force it too much it can cause a crack in the windshield, becuase the adhesive is 20 years old and dried out. Usually you gently use a execto blade to slowly cut away the adhesive. I've never done this on a 308 but it should be the same process. |

How does one remove the inside mirror on a 308? I have to replace it and can't figure out how it comes off. It looks like there is a joint in the metal half way down from the windshield. I've tried to fix the attaching swivel that holds the mirror on to the bracket, but the plastic is worn out and the mirror won't stay up. |
