Mark, if the wire is broken, go to any bicycle shop and get a hand-brake cable and cut it to length. you have to have the window down to access the latch to slide the cable thru it and then put the window back up to finish the job. it is not an easy one to do--you will have to "tweak it" a little to get teh tension just right or you will not be able to use the lock.

Mark, look under Tech. Q&A under 308 Window Motors and there is a great explode pic of your door lock mechanism.

Just pull off the door panel (a couple screws on the bottom of the panel, three bolts under the handle, a screw in the back off the door by the latch, then work it out towards the top, it kind of hooks on by the window) it takes like five minutes and then you'll be able to see how it works in a sec and figure out where it's wrong. Driver's side so when you pull it off be careful of the window switch, they'll be like 6 inches of extra wire, it is plugged in on the back of the switch (or at least my car is).

Mark, If it's like my 79 308 GTS, and I think it is, there is a black screw just inside the door panel, above the lock assembly near the top of the door panel. Your handle uses this screw as a shaft to move back and forth on. Be sure the screw has not backed out or dropped out entirely. If the screw is there and is tight then you will have to remove the interior leather panel and attach the pull mechanism to the handle. It should'nt be broken.

My 'new' 308 GTSi (1982) just lost it's ability to be opened from driver;s side exterior handle; feels like there is no connection to internal door lock mech. Is this a common problem, easy fix or new door lock/handle mech needed?

Thanks Mark
