It'll be behind the altenator, right above the engine-mount.

OK I'm not a complete idiot but how do I access the fitting for the dipstick? I am under, over and around the car. I can do this by god, but the tricks will save me a lot of heartache. Status;
308 on stands, oil pan loose but for the hang up. 2 cases Mobil 1 synthetic standing by. I can have this done tonight after work with some help.
Thanks
Mike
P.S. I'll get to know this car whether she likes it or not.

As long as you spread a thin film of sealant around the stud hole (as well as the rest of the surface of the gasket), there shouldn't be any fluid leaking out.

I've done this to the mating surfaces on the engine so far and I do the same for the flanged pipes I weld up at work, the surface should be "roughened". The sealant does a better job if its on a rough surface. The flanges I weld on to pipes are cast and have that natural rough surface. These pipes carry gasoline and other petrochemicals at pressure and believe me it holds. Just rub a medium grit sandpaper lightly on the surfaces before applying sealant and assembly. Don't get carried away with the sanding, just lightly!

Having a leaky oil pan as well, not yet fixed it, but was told by my mechanic that I should try to silicon both the mating surfaces as well as the bolts. Any ideas?

Here's what it looks like:

Yes, its the dip-stick tube fitting that protrudes into the case, which fouls up on the flat tray that is bolted to the pan. Remove the dip-stick tube, remove the fitting on the case (which has a 4" long tube that is flared to match the fitting) and it should fall out. It may hang up on the oil pick-up tube, but should wriggle past it.

Hey Peter, can you help Steve with that. I know you and Herb were talking about the pan not coming off when you were removing your engine from your trans.

I'm trying to replace the oil pan gasket on my 308 GTB (Fix a pesky leak). I removed the nuts off the studs but I can't get the pan/plate off. It is hanging below the studs but it stuck on the passenger side. Does anyone know how the pan releases? Or does anyone have a diagram of what the pan area looks like?
