Just bought a 2 ton jack from Murray's for $ 20. Fits nicely under my 308 GTS with room to spare.

After I left the shop a guy walked up to me and was saying something like 'a Ferrari driver goes shopping at Murrays'. Well, for stuff like that, why not.

Nothing is lower than my Europa; around 4.5" ground clearence at the front swaybar. I have the Rhino Ramps and they are great. I have 4 so I can use a jack and put a ramp under all 4 wheels. I would think a TR would have no problem.

Glen--I have a 308 and the ramps work well with this model. They do have a very gradual incline so I think they may work with the TR, but I'm not absolutely sure. If you have a Pep Boys near you, you could drive there and bring a ramp out to the lot to see if it would fit. Magoo is right, you still need to jack the car up further , off of the ramps, to remove the wheels. But driving up the ramp first is easy and saves time

The floor jack sold by Girot's Garrage will fit under a Fcar. It's pricy, but the nicest I have used in 25 years in the business.

However the ramps will not allow you to remove the wheels. Jack the car up from the jacking points on the side of the car. Then raise it high enough to get jack stands under the front of the car under the tubular frame. Using a scissors jack will do as long as it has enough range, distance, to raise the car high enough. What I am referring to here is the 308-328 chassis. Hopefully the TR can be done the same way.

Bill,

I need to rebuild the calipers on my 90TR, they are starting to stick, regarding the drive on ramps - does the front end clear the ground ? or do you need to lift it as well?

Although these won't work by themselves for jobs which require the wheels to come off, a great set of drive-on ramps is sold by Pep Boys , called Rhino Ramps. They are made for low-profile cars and raise the car about 7-8" . They are very light ( made of some high-strength plastic material), cheap ( around $29 / pair), and very convenient if you need to crawl under the car ( i' still use jack stands as a precaution, though). I like them a lot and use them frequently.

For normal applications a racing jack is far to pricey >$500, a common solution is to roll the car onto some 2"x12"x~1" planks (stack them 2 high if you need to as steps (under tires only) then put a regular shop jack under to lift.

Bob Norwood does all of his work with only jack stands. James will be getting a lift though.

Peter, You are right about that. Wasn't it Arnaldo who devised a system to pull, drop, the engine on his TR by simply jacking the car up high enough and using a platform with rollers which he let the engine down on and rolled it out?

Minor brake work like changing pads, bleeding brake fluid, etc.? A jack and jack-stands would be sufficiant for that. Heck, there are guys here who have done engine-pulls on TR's using only those items...

Follow your owner's manual's suggestions of where the ideal lifting/raising points are on a TR.
