Or maybe the electrical connections under the console are not making contact. Also fuses as Kurt says.

If I understand the question, the clutch is energized if and only if the temperature setting (left knob) is calling for AC and the blower (middle knob) is in 'on' position. The temperature switch makes a click when it turns the power on. Ditto for when it shuts compressor off. Mine is an '87 328.

What energizes the A/C compressor clutch? One can usually hear and/or feel it come on, which I don't.

Check the fuses - all heater controls are run electrically on the 328, no cables.
Mayby you accidentally shorted out something while working with the center console.

The only thing on the heat control of the console would be that something has come loose that controls the heater valve. The A/C should work. if the fan is running as long as the A/C compressor clutch is energized. You probably hooked up some of the connections incorrectly when you reinstalled the console. First check the A/C pulley and see if the clutch is energizing. Then pull the console lid off and check the hook ups.

Early this summer, the AC was working. After removing the seats and center console to rejuvinate the leather, the AC no longer works. As the weather cools, I noticed that the heater does not work either. Can the two problems be related? The fan blowers are OK, but no heat and AC. BTW, I also took apart the black box under the passenger foot well, but I belive I put it back together fine because everything else seems to work.

Any suggestions?
