J.R., thanks for the post and I'm thinking along the same lines and for a future project I'll get the tube cleaned best as possible and re-feed the greased cable. The rear calipers seem to be good and free but will check again. Meanwhile, I just won't use the e-brake. Thanks again, Roger B. |

Well .....if you think the cable sticking in the tube is the 'real' problem, then maybe the tube has debris of some sort in it. The first step would be to insure the tube is clean and the cable heavily lubed with axle grease. If the cable is still not free in the tube after a thorough cleaning and lubing, maybe there is some type of obstruction in the tube, sheet metal screw from something or a piece of welding flash? Generally though on the early 308's the caliper arms will freeze up and fail to return to their rest position, causing pressure to stay applied to the P/B pad.. It's very common to advise people to 'not use' a 308 parking brake because they were always rather suspect in design and operation. |

Philip-thanks for the reply. The pulleys and cable at the rear of the car are new and work fine. Its the cable itself fron the e-brake handle to the rear mechanism that just doesn't move freely in the tube. |

Roger While not having taken mine apart, I have adjusted it a couple of times with the turnbuckle and thought this was fairly straightforward. If you check the parts cat. you'll see the routing of the cable and note that it operates on both sides through a couple of pulleys. Is a spring is missing or broken? Philip |

Has anyone figured out how to get it to operate without sticking? I got the old cable out(with difficulty) and installed a new one. It hangs up in the tube to the rear of the car when I set the brake so I've disconnected it. Any suggestions, thanks. Roger B. |
