John,

I have had my GTE since '83. I have also seen many others and none have stainless floorboards. Mine was slightly rusted, but only required minor work to repair, which I did myself. The GTE body is relatively crude by today's standards and any local body shop can handle anything on the car. Only the hood and trunk lids are aluminum, the rest of the body is steel. The old padding used under the carpets in the early '60s was also good at holding water, encouraging rust. When I rebuilt mine, I used a closed cell foam padding under the new Wilton carpet.

I agree that the floor should not be stainless steel. Check the archives of Tom Yang's site (www.tomyang.com). He had to replace a rusted section of the floor of his GTE and the work is detailed there.

Hi
1. SS should not rust.
2. SS is not original.
3. SS has to be isolated from mild steel or it will cause galvanic corrision.
4. There is no magic to repairing this. Any good body shop can do it but extreme care must be taken when taking these older cars apart. Take carefull notes and lable everything!

Anyone else have any answers?, I admit I kiss the butt of new users and especially when they have a 250 GTE! Just trying to make sure John sticks around, we need more vintage users on here.

Do you want to find someone local to you or is this something anyone can do?

Stainless steel? That's a new one on me. I found a good body guy that was working out of his garage. He didn't do any painting just body work. At 25.00 Hr you can't beat it.

I purchased a GTE 250 ['62]. It's in ok condition generally BUT the stainless steel flooring is rusting through. Anyone have specific advice on how to have this repaired? Can this be done by a good body shop or does it require a Ferrari specialist? Cannot find any info. on this question.
