The BMW used a viscous fan attached to the waterpump that comes on at a lower temp than the electric fans on a Ferrari. Almost any Electric fan vehicle temperature fluctuates more than with one with a viscous clutch fan. The temperature variations, while concerning to watch, are not a problem. Most GM vehicles have a 195 degree thermostat, and that is where the temp stays until you get in traffic and then the fans do not go on until 238 degrees. WOW what a variation, but it is normal.

Generally speaking, why does a MB V12 or a Bmw V12 maintain a relatively stable water temp whereas a 550M is so volitile--170 on highway--220 in trafic. Not a criticism just a cutiosity.
