On my car, once they reached the top of the aluminum firewall, they simply entered the engine bay, made a turn, passed through a metal loop on one of the chassis tubes and headed straight for the cylinder head and intake manifold (heater hose and brake booster hose respectively...).

I need your help. I have run the vacuum line and heater hose from the rear of my 83 308qv to the front. I have hooked up everything in the front of the car. I now have the hoses running out the back and am not sure how they go from there. I should have paid more attention to that but in the heat of battle........... Anyway, does any know how these hoses run or better yet does anyone have a picture. I looked at the one in this post but it's aparent that the 308qv is different.

Thanks .............. Gary

Peter,Paul&Magoo! Teaching contract was up, my money ran out touring around Australia, I missed my family and as Arnie once said, "I'll be back"! Last I heard my old GTB is apparently still sitting on a rolling frame unfinished. My mechanical mentor and family friend is now fully retired and waiting for us to get our hands dirty again. He likes the idea of a GT4 to play with,so we are both looking. Ciao.

This was discussed a week or two ago. The link I provided in that discussion was:

I was searching the archives just for my own curiosity. I found mention that things are much easier if the fuel tank is loosened and moved a bit. Apparently, it can be moved an inch or two w/o disconnecting all the hoses, etc. This gives a bit of valuable clearance, but is (obviously) a lot easier than total removal.

Unfortunately, lost the thread reference, but you can find it by doing a search on "heater hose".

I found a picture of what I think you are talking about. there are straps that hold the hose in place behind the firewall. If you attatch the new hose to the old it should just pull through. Obviously it is easier with the tank out (like I did) but not necessary.

Thanks for the tips and for that previous thread. If I do have to move the gas tank, however, how do I go about accomplishing that?

Here is some conversation of the clamps or straps near the fuel tank that some cars have. I haven't found the photos yet.

I did the same procedure J.R. described. Definately easier with two people but not necessary. Might as well change the vacuum line while you're at it. Also check the fuel lines between the tanks. If they have never been changed you might want to consider doing this also. They may appear okay from the outside but trust me they are rotting away inside!

Someone around here posted photos of a sheet metal clamp around both hoses, somewhere in the gas tank area. (Peter?) (Or was it on one of the DIY Ferrari sites?) However, since I've heard of people just pulling new ones thru as J.R. describes, it must not be on all cars.

The way I've done it in the past is to splice the new hose onto the old hose and 'pull' the new hose through. Use a metal hose splice, with tie wraps, not hose clamps, lube the hose and pull the new hose thru while pulling the old hose out. Usually takes two people, one on each end convinceing the hose to mind it's manners ;-).

In order to change the 12' foot heater hose in my car, I understand that I may have to move or remove the gas tank out of the way. What is the proper/ safe procedure for this job? Also, are there any clips /fasteners on this hose behind the gas tank ?
