When I re-torque them, I just think "back on".

Jim is correct. Stated in the alternative - rotate forward to loosen.

KO's should always tighten to the rear of the car no matter what side of the car they are on. If they loosen they will be tightened by the forward rotation of the axle as the car moves forward.

Not being at home, I am not sure, but I think the right side is a r/h tighten and the left is l/h tighten. I tighten mine before the track and after and never a problem.

Has anyone recently rebuilt your suspension? Sounds like someone might have inadvertently crossed the right and left spindles - one is right-hand thread, the other left-hand. Get them wrong and wheels go bye-bye. Should be self-tightening when brakes applied.

Joe,
We were in a Ferrari caravan to a race track outside New Orleans, about 40 cars. We were doing 60 or so and in a slight bend when the wheel left the car. According to the guy behind me the rear center lock nuts came off one at a time and he did not realize what they were as he passed them. The strange thing is that the wheels stayed on for 8 or 10 miles and then only one came off. It could have been both rear wheels coming off! That would have been a real bummer.

Dave,

Which right and left, front or back lugs and how fast were you going? That's amazing that there was not much damage. I guess the stiff chassis helped some. Incredible!!!!!!

Believe it or not the car was in motion when they "departed". I noticed a "slight suspension droop" as the wheel and tire passed me. No damage to the car from the tire, some from the pavement.

Dave,

I would think the car was parked since you did not mention a wreck or damage related to their departure. Obviously someone needed them for their TR or wanted them as souvenirs. One place to check to replace them is Tom Seanacy (sp) at 949 366-6211. When you get them make sure you use an cooper based anti-cease compound (Loctite) on the threads and torque them cold.

The one on eBay was from a ligit Ferrari source in Toronto Canada. I have bought from them before and they have great prices on parts too. 416 535-8152 as for Helder.

Good luck, Joe

In need of both a right and a left wheel center lock nut for an '86 TR. Both departed the car last weekend at the New Orleans Ferrari event. Any ideas on were to locate two USED wheel nuts? Also interested in any therories as to how BOTH well tightened nuts would "self remove" THANKS
