Tillman, It does have 2 heater cores. If it is like my 308 and I think it is , remove the spare tire and remove the fiberglass cover that is screwed to the well floor and the upper cowl. Then this exposes the heater cores. They are located about midway of the front fenders in a heater box and the hoses go into them. If anything is leaking you can tell from there. |

I've narrowed it down to the driver's side system only -- the passenger's system heats without the smell. I'm going to try to just run it and see if it clears out. Looking at the manual, it appears that there's two separate heater cores in the 328, one each for the passenger and driver systems. Can anyone verify that I'm reading that correctly? |

Tillman, It could be that you haven't had the heater on all summer so now you get that musty smell when you first turn it on. Then again it could be a heater core as Mark suggested. I would leave it on and the smell should leave in a short period of time maybe a day or so. If it still has it then look for loose hoses on the heater cores or a cracked connection. |

did you guys also have trouble w. the coolant expansion tank spitting coolant every now and then? I wonder if this could be a route cause to all the air in the coolant system with the 3X8s? |

Tillman, I have the same problem with my car. When I had the radiator redone we couldn't duplicate it ,but sure enough, when I turned it on on Sunday, same thing. I'm not willing to go spend more $$ trying to track it down because if you'll wait a few minutes, the car will be plenty warm. I AM glad to see it's not just me. Oh, and welcome to Ferrari ownership! |

I had the same problem in my '87 328. It was the heater cores. When I took them out and pressure tested them; it turned out to be the joints where the tubes are bonded to the tank. The cores look like an airconditioning evaporator and the tubes are bonded into the core. The bonding cement looks exactly like JB Weld. I took a pointed die grinder (Dremel type tool) and ground-out all the cement and then I used JB weld to recement the tubes back in. The JB even flows like the original stuff. When grinding, you can tell that there were cracks in the cement. When I was done, I pressure tested the cores to 20 PSI and they held. I have not reinstalled the cores yet because for the summer, I have been trying to keep the car a little cooler. If you email me, I have a few pictures that I can email you next week. You may also just want to try a Radiator sealer.

It wasn't in a Ferrari, but I had the same problem in my 1979 Pontiac daily driver. When I turned on the windshield defroster to clear off the moisture, it got worse. The problem was a leaking heater core that was allowing coolant vapors to blow into the cabin. This was verified when I removed the old core. It showed signs of leakage. Hope this isn't the problem but I don't know the specifics of 328 heater cores. |

Check heater on/off valves near the brake reservoir. You'll have to remove the panel the spare sits in. My downstream hoses loosened once years ago. Could also be your heat exchanger that warms the air. Hopefully, it is not that. |

Greetings, I turned on the heater for the first time today on my 1987 328 GTS, and soon the smell of antifreeze was filling the cabin. I had to turn off the heater to eliminate the smell. Any ideas? Bad heater core and $5000? I didn't see anything leaking inside or outside the car. Thanks |
