Thanks Steve, My mechanic is Roger in Kent High Performance. He sourced a second hand one in great condition for 245 for me. Actually, they're fitting it right now. I did look on superformance, and I checked around a few other places on the net but I couldn't find that piece exclusively. What I did find is a complete crankshaft for 1500 ... but thankfully I didn't need that. I'm getting 2 spare belts with the order too ... hopefully if the same happens again, I can get the RAC to fix it on the spot. |

Odhran -- There (usually) isn't a need to replace the crankshaft pulley so I doubt anyone else has any price experience in this area (which is also why the price for a "new" one is ridiculous -- no demand = high price). Buying used is definitely the way to go -- since you're in the UK you could check with http://www.superformance.co.uk or if you want some US sources try T. Rutlands or GT Carparts (who I think both have fairly large F boneyards). |

Same thing happened to me with respect to the lining up of the water pump and alternator. Wore out three belts trying to get the bloody thing lined up. Just FYI, my mechanic is coverting my car (84 GTSI) to a dual belt system - one for the alternator and one for the water pump. |

Good advice, thanks. I'll remind them to have a look at the alignment. Can someone confirm for me the price for a new crankshaft pulley? |

When I was melting water pump/ alt belts it turned out that I needed to shim the alt. bracket with a washer to get it lined up with the crank pulley and water pump pulley. .85 cent fix of course this was after a new water pump, new water pump pulley new alt. and new alt. bracket bushings |

Odd, in all my years I have never seen a 308 crankshaft pulley go bad... |

Hi all, I bought my ferrari (1983 308QV) last September, and one of the first things I did was bring it in for a service. They replaced all the belts and did a wonderful job in total, but they warned me that the crankshaft pulley was worn and would need replacment soonish. Sure enough, the first major trip I take the car on caused the water pump / alternator belt to disintegrate (literally - it just melted), and I am now arranging to get it fixed .. and also to sort out that pulley. So I rang them back again. He quoted me 1500 for the crankshaft pulley alone!! This is the price for a new one!! He did manage to get one for 245 second hand, but I surely there must be a mistake there? Any ideas? |
